Asphalt & Composition Shingle Roofing
Composition (asphalt) shingle is the most popular roofing material in the Puget Sound region for good reason: excellent weather protection, a huge range of colors and profiles, straightforward repairs, and the best value per year of service of any mainstream system.
First Choice Roof Service installs shingle systems from Owens Corning, Malarkey, CertainTeed, and IKO — manufacturers whose products are proven in Pacific Northwest conditions. Modern architectural shingles carry impressive wind ratings, algae-resistant granules for our damp climate, and manufacturer warranties that reward correct installation.
Correct installation is the key phrase. A shingle roof is a system — underlayment, ice-and-water protection, flashing, field shingles, and ridge ventilation working together. Our certified, full-time crews install to manufacturer spec, which is what keeps both the roof and its warranty intact.

Asphalt Shingle Roofing FAQs
How long does an asphalt shingle roof last in Western Washington?
Typically 20–30 years with proper installation and maintenance. Our wet, moss-prone climate can shorten that if a roof isn't maintained — which is why we also offer cleaning and maintenance programs.
What's the difference between 3-tab and architectural shingles?
Architectural (laminated) shingles are thicker, more dimensional, carry higher wind ratings, and generally last longer than older 3-tab designs. For most replacements today, architectural shingles are the standard recommendation — the cost difference is modest and the performance difference isn't.
Which shingle brands do you install?
We work with quality materials from Owens Corning, Malarkey, CertainTeed, and IKO — all manufacturers with proven track records in Pacific Northwest conditions and strong warranty programs.
Are algae-resistant shingles worth it in Seattle?
Yes. The black streaking common on local roofs is algae, and manufacturers now embed copper-infused granules that suppress it for years. In our climate it's one of the easiest upgrade decisions there is.
Can you repair my existing shingle roof instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. Isolated damage, flashing failures, and small leak repairs are routine for us, and repair is what we recommend whenever the roof has real life left. A free inspection tells you which side of the line your roof is on.
